Year: Italy, 18th century – Late Baroque School
Technique and materials: Carved and gilded wood, antique oxidized glass

This elegant oval mirror is set in a sumptuous frame of finely carved and leaf-gilded wood. The rich and dynamic decoration is inspired by late Baroque and Rococo repertoire, featuring floral motifs, scrolls, acanthus leaves, and a crest crowned by a stylized five-petal flower.

The decorative effect is amplified by the warm patina of the original gilding and the mirror surface now oxidized by time, giving the object a decadent and poetic charm. These oxidations not only attest to the piece’s antiquity but also enhance its historical and decorative value.

Most likely intended for a noble domestic setting, the mirror was designed to be placed above a console or fireplace, serving as both a functional and decorative element. Its visual opulence reflects the theatrical taste of the era, aimed at astonishing and enhancing interiors.
